Going Green with "LunchBlox"

In my quest to "green" my life, the first step was to look at my daily habits. One glaring (and easily fixable) issue was my lunch habits. I usually pack my lunch, with an occasional lunch out if I am running really behind. The bad part - I'm always using plastic bags - and then throwing them away. I need something reusable, BPA-free, microwaveable and that fits in my insulated lunch bag. Once I get to work I tend to jump right in, and before I know it it's hours later and my lunch is still sitting right next to me...

Rubbermaid LunchBlox - Lunch Containers

Which is where Rubbermaid LunchBlox fits in! Rubbermaid sent me their new Sandwich Lunch Pack. It saves space and stays organized since it snaps together - it even includes a specially designed blue ice pack that keeps lunches chilled (perfect for my-forgetful-self). There are various sized snack containers, so it will also work whenever A starts school :) So for now, a small step...a little more green every day, right?

You can check out the new line of "LunchBlox" containers on Rubbermaid's website - for those of you more inspired than me, they even have a salad kit! You can find the products online, Target, Safeway, Kroger, other grocery stores and select Wal-mart stores.

Note: I received the LunchBlox for review by Rubbermaid, however I was not compensated for this post and all opinions are my own.

  4. I love the bento style lunch boxes! My kids love having things separated but all in one place.

  6. We use a lot of plastic containers around my house, but I've started to wonder about how "green" plastic is compared to other options (like metal bento boxes which are quite popular right now). Thoughts? Do you know if the Rubbermaid boxes are recyclable (if in a couple of years you loose a top and don't need the box any more)? I do like the ice pack feature :)

    1. Hi Elena :) Here is what I found out! The containers, packaging and Blue Ice are recyclable (depending on your local municipality). The containers are made from #5 plastic. Rubbermaid will also take them back. You can learn more here: http://www.rubbermaid.com/Pages/green-living.aspx. The Blue Ice are classified as #7 (it’s a 7 plastic that is BPA-Free) which can be harder to find recycling for but some centers are starting to take it. Thanks for asking...I never even thought about recycling them!
